Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS and Development Tools Now Available for Networking Developers Using Freescale Semiconductor's ColdFire Processors
MOBILE, Ala.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—July 28, 2004—
Accelerated Technology(R), Embedded Systems Division of
Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced that its
Nucleus(R) Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and comprehensive
development environment supports Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.'s
ColdFire(R) MCF547x/548x processors.
Embedded developers using these processors now have a complete
software solution available from one vendor in which to build, compile
and debug their network-connected control applications.
The MCF547x and MCF548x families of microprocessors, based on the
advanced V4e ColdFire core, offer the highest level of integration and
include features such as memory management unit (MMU), floating point
unit (FPU), enhanced multiplier-accumulator unit (EMAC) and on-chip
multiprocessing. The Nucleus RTOS, closely integrated with the
MCF547x/548x processors, provides a customized and solid foundation
from which ColdFire processor developers can build applications such
as point-of-sale systems, robotics, security systems and
healthcare-related medical instrumentation.
By implementing the robust and scalable Nucleus RTOS, developers
can take advantage of other Nucleus add-on products supporting the
MCF547x/548x processors including the Nucleus NET TCP/IP networking
protocol stack, the Nucleus SHELL debug tool, Ethernet drivers and a
controller area network (CAN) driver (CAN is specific to the MCF548x
only).
Accelerated Technology's development tool suite is also available
for the MCF547x/548x processors. The XRAY(R) debugger provides
powerful debugging capabilities with a consistent feature-set and user
interface for all popular development hosts. The Microtec(R)
compilation tools consist of C and C++ cross-compilers, assembler and
linker that help developers take advantage of the new Freescale chip
variants as they are released. Rounding out the tool suite for
ColdFire processor developers is the code/lab(R) EDE software, which
provides an intuitive, integrated embedded development environment.
"Accelerated Technology has a long history of helping Freescale's
32-bit embedded customers with industry-proven products such as the
Nucleus RTOS and the XRAY Debugger," said Bill Krakar, tools program
manager, Freescale Semiconductor. "The combination of Accelerated
Technology's long-time embedded expertise with Mentor Graphics' global
capabilities will help Freescale's new and existing customers achieve
success with their MCF547x/548x designs."
"The Nucleus software has always been popular in network-connected
control applications due to its technical merit as well as its royalty
free business model. The Nucleus RTOS offers the functionality
necessary for these applications, and the small code footprint fits
nicely within the limited system resources," said Robert Day, director
of marketing, Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics. "Supporting
the new Freescale ColdFire 548x/7x processors with our RTOS and
development tools offers a very appealing solution for developers
embarking on new networking designs."
Pricing and Availability
The Nucleus embedded software is sold with source code and without
royalty fees. Licenses for the Nucleus software begin at U.S. $12,495
Licenses for the XRAY Debugger start at U.S. $2,495, licenses for the
